Our Cause

Over the past 31 years, this tournament, sponsored by Alex A. Campbell has raised $1,106,000.00 to support both research to eradicate cancer and to provide support for patients who come from all parts of the island and reside in the Vancouver Island Cancer Lodge while receiving treatment for cancer at the local Cancer Clinic

The Lodge provides low cost accommodation for Vancouver Island cancer patients and their families who need to travel to Victoria for their cancer treatments. In addition to providing a home away from home, it provides nursing supervision, meals and volunteer driving services. Donations make a tremendous difference and enable the Lodge to improve the quality of life for persons living with cancer.

“The Lodge was a godsend. My wife and I had a friendly and comfortable place to stay during the 6 weeks I received daily radiation treatments”
Port McNeil Cancer Survivor

“Dealing with my cancer was stressful for my whole family. By staying and eating at the Lodge for several consecutive days my husband and I did not have to make the daily drive to Victoria. This gave me the strength to face my chemotherapy treatments and to heal”
Ladysmith Cancer Survivor

In 2018, over 2000 Vancouver Island cancer patients travelled to Victoria for treatment. The 42 bed Vancouver Island Lodge is conveniently located only three blocks from the Cancer Treatment Centre.

The funds raised by the tournament have helped to create a comfortable home for cancer patients over the years by providing funds to improve the Lodge including in 2011, a refurbished deck; in 2012, upgrades to their emergency call system; in 2013, a shuttle van; in 2014, windows for the Lodge; in 2015, carpets and painting of the whole facility; in 2016, a steamer/convection oven, a patient fridge and luggage carts; in 2017 furniture for the main floor lounge, an ice machine, LED lighting upgrades and a wheelchair.

By participating in this year’s tournament, you will be helping to raise funds which will allow the purchase of a new commercial dishwasher, a washer and dryer for the guests and an Automatic External Defibrillator.

Next year the Tournament takes place on May 4 at Uplands, Gorge Vale, and Bear Mountain; over 200 golfers are expected to participate. Courses contribute their facility at no cost and rotate as paid hosts for the evening dinner.

Show your support by registering to play a round with your friends at one of Victoria’s premier golf courses.  Enjoy dinner, team prizes, raffles,  and an auction after the game.
