Our Cause

Welcome to our 34th anniversary! The tournament helps to fund capital improvements to the Canadian Cancer Society’s Vancouver Island Cancer Lodge which houses over 2000 patients a year. In the last 32 years we have raised over $1,000,000 thanks to our many supporters.

The Lodge provides low cost accommodation for Vancouver Island cancer patients and their families who need to travel to Victoria for their cancer treatments. In addition to providing a home away from home, it provides nursing supervision, meals and volunteer driving services. Donations make a tremendous difference and enable the Lodge to improve the quality of life for persons living with cancer.

“The Lodge was a godsend. My wife and I had a friendly and comfortable place to stay during the 6 weeks I received daily radiation treatments”
Port McNeil Cancer Survivor

“Dealing with my cancer was stressful for my whole family. By staying and eating at the Lodge for several consecutive days my husband and I did not have to make the daily drive to Victoria. This gave me the strength to face my chemotherapy treatments and to heal”
Ladysmith Cancer Survivor

In 2019, over 2000 Vancouver Island cancer patients travelled to Victoria for treatment. The 42 bed Vancouver Island Lodge is conveniently located only three blocks from the Cancer Treatment Centre.

The funds raised by the tournament have helped to create a comfortable home for cancer patients over the years by providing funds to improve the Lodge including in 2011, a refurbished deck; in 2012, upgrades to their emergency call system; in 2013, a shuttle van; in 2014, windows for the Lodge; in 2015, carpets and painting of the whole facility; in 2016, a steamer/convection oven, a patient fridge and luggage carts; in 2017 furniture for the main floor lounge, an ice machine, LED lighting upgrades and a wheelchair. In 2018 new toilets were installed for the entire building including the double occupancy rooms. The funds raised by the 2019 and 2020 events will be used to add a new heating, ventilation and air conditioning system throughout the Lodge.

Please help us to continue supporting this important centre for cancer patients.

Next year’s tournament takes place on May 2, 2022. at Uplands, Gorge Vale, and Bear Mountain; over 200 golfers are expected to participate. Courses contribute their facility at no cost and the evening banquet is held at Uplands Golf Club.

“Although we will not be running a tournament in 2021 we are soliciting donations and plan on conducting an online auction.

Please consider a donation or participate in the auction to support this important resource supporting cancer patients. Hopefully we will get back to golf in 2022 as well as raising money for the lodge.”
